- Purtarea obligatorie de antifoane externe sau interne speciale pentru urechi:
folosite corect acestea pot reduce considerabil expunerile la decibeli ridicați, oferind protecție împotriva pierderii auzului. - Regulat trebuie efectuat un control la Otorinolaringologie (ORL), pentru a preveni, diagnostica și trata eventuale afecțiuni ale urechii
- Expunerea cât mai puțin posibil la zgomot puternic

Pierderea auzului unei persoane poate să survină în urma unei expuneri la 85 de decibeli de zgomot, în decursul a 8 ore. Dacă nivelul zgomotului depășește 100 de decibeli, o persoană poate suferi afecțiuni auditive în mai puțin de 15 minute. Cu cât este mai puternic un zgomot, cu atât se poate produce o pierdere mai rapidă a auzului.
Purtați obligatoriu protecții auditive dacă lucrați în domenii de activitate în care zgomotul este intens și de necontrolat. Orice persoană care va fi expusă unei poluări fonice, în mod constant, va avea probleme auditive sau chiar își va pierde total auzul.
Domeniile de activitate cu cel mai mare risc în posibilitatea pierderii auzului din cauza zgomotului intens sunt: minerit, carieră și extracție de petrol și gaze naturale, construcții, agricultură, silvicultură, pescuit și vânătoare.
